Bomb Threats and Suspicious Package

When institutions receive bomb threats, they are typically by phone.

If you are the recipient of such a threat

  1. Stay calm.
  2. Gather as much information as you can. Ask the following questions:
    1. When is the bomb going to explode?
    2. Where is the bomb?
    3. What does the bomb look like?
    4. What kind of explosive is it?
    5. What is your name?
    6. Where are you now?
    7. Why are you doing this?
  3. Contact Campus Safety immediately. Dial ‘0’ or x7291 or from a cell phone dial 413-528-7291.
  4. Record the number from which you received the threat, the number of the caller, and the time the call was received.
  5. The Great Barrington Police and Fire departments will be called to assess/investigate the threat.
  6. The appropriate College authority along with the Campus Safety Department will determine the course of action to be taken which may or may not include partial or complete evacuation of campus.

If you receive or notice a suspicious package

  1. Be aware of any package containing powder or wires, is making noises, or is warm to the touch.
  2. Leave the area immediately and call Campus Safety.
  3. If possible, wash off any powder with water.

They have also provided a checklist that you can keep by your phone in the event of a bomb threat call.
