A Huffington Post article compares Robin Williams to both Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Lisa Frank, praising the complex gender politics of her reclining nudes. Her paintings question the “unspoken myth that only female bodies are innately more worthy of pictorial immortality” and “are bursting with affirmation, both for the male bodies inhabiting the frames and the female artist who painted them into being.” Robin Williams aims to both problematize and pay homage to the art historical staple of the reclining female nude.
